global environmental and ecological concern. Jute as a base for these bags
enable to preserve food in best natural way. Background
The origin of such bag is dated back in 1990 when traces of hydrocarbon was found in cocoa and coffee beans by Swiss food laboratory. This made new headline and became major issue. It was considered as serious concern with the European food industry and the public at large. Presence of hydrocarbon was found due to use of mineral oil in the manufacture of jute bags. The manufacturers researched to find appropriate hydrocarbon free fibre lubricant and this led to the creation of jute food grade bags using eatable oil.
Creation of food grade bags
A research was undertaken by Indian Jute Mills Association (IJMA) and Indian Jute Industries' Research Association (IJIRA) to identify a suitable alternative oil. IJIRA developed and patented a special technology based on Rice Bran Oil (RBO II) to manufacture Food Grade Jute Bags. This technology is the best eco friendly technology used for the preparation high quality safe packaging material for food products. RBO technology used in jute food grade bags is non toxic, resistant to rancidity and stable. Food bags operated under this technology completely complied the international specifications ordained by IJO 98/01 and IOCCC.
