The
jute bags used as packaging material in India manufactured under
IJIRA licensing scheme based on the RBO technology are considered to
be the the best and the safest packaging material for food products
in general, specially coffee, cocoa beans and edible nuts. Food
grade Jute Bags are a boon in the context of global environmental
and ecological concern. Indian food grade jute bags have the
advantage of preserving of food in the most natural way.
Background
In 1990, Swiss food laboratory reported traces of hydrocarbon in
cocoa and coffee beans . This was a matter of serious concern

with the European food industry and the public at large. The
presence of hydrocarbon was the result of the use of mineral oil in
the manufacture of jute bags. That is the reason there was the need
for an appropriate hydrocarbon free fibre lubricant and this led to
the creation of jute food grade bags.
Creation of food grade bags
On the basis of results of a research undertaken by Indian Jute
Mills Association (IJMA) and Indian Jute Industries' Research
Association (IJIRA) to identify a suitable alternative oil, IJIRA
developed and patented a special technology based on Rice Bran Oil
(RBO II) to manufacture Food Grade Jute Bags. This technology is the
best eco friendly technology used for the preparation of safest
packaging material for food products.
RBO technology
The technology used in Jute food grade bags is highly eco friendly,
bio degradable, stable, non toxic vegetable oil and resistant to
rancidity. Food bags operated under this technology completely
complied the international specifications ordained by IJO 98/01 and
IOCCC.
Features of jute food grade bags
- They are non toxic.
- They do not consist any compound which can produce off-tastes
or off flavors in food materials.
- Long durable life.
- Used for the packaging of all kinds of food grains like rice,
tea, wheat, coffee and so on.
These criteria are complied by food grade bags from all over
India under RBO technology. The bags quality and fabric is
guaranteed by IJIRA's strict quality control measures. Apart from
this, General superintendent (SGS) India Ltd. under MOU with IHIRA
is committed with food grade certification which carry a logo
symbolizing mark of quality.
